Drake University Student Newspapers (Times-Delphic)

In 1884, two students, three faculty members and an alumnus joined together to produce Drake University’s first student newspaper, the Drake Delphic. Over the past 125+ years, the students of Drake have continued to publish a newspaper, documenting news and events for the Drake and Des Moines communities. Cowles Library has a nearly complete collection of these newspapers, and we are happy to present them here online for the first time.

Using scanning equipment and optical character recognition (OCR) software, Cowles Library has made this collection completely keyword searchable. At this time, the collection is far from complete. Our initial offering is made up of publications from the 1930s and the 1960s. We will continue to add publications as we process them, and we look forward to presenting this collection in full.

Are you interested in seeing a year we have yet to bring up online? Let us know, and we’ll see what we can do.

Search tips: If you are searching using Exact Phrase Search and don’t find what you are looking for, try broadening your search using Search All Words. Please also note that OCR technology is not perfect, and not all of our microfilm images are pretty. This means some words have not been accurately recognized and will not turn up in your search. If you don’t find what you are looking for, you may want to browse issues by date.
