New Digital Collection – 50 Years of Periphery

April 11, 2013

In the Spring of 1963 Drake students put together the first issue of a new publication dedicated to literature and poetry. Over the years this journal has expanded to include art and design.

To commemorate 50 years of continuous publication of this unique and celebrated publication, Cowles Library has digitized our holdings of the journal. Visit the collection and see what Drake students have been creating over the past half century.

“Drake-apedia” – It’s not just a funny sounding word. Drakeapedia is a student-created wiki highlighting Drake’s rich history. Here you will find entries about campus buildings, notable faculty and alumni, various organizations and time-honored traditions. First developed as an FYS (first-year seminar) course in the fall of 2010, “Drakeapedia: Building a Living Archive,” this seminar was designed for students to learn more about Drake’s heritage by discovering resources in Cowles Library’s Special Collections, creating content using wiki technology, and capturing history by conducting oral histories. Take a look at what our students have created, and let us know what you think.
